3 Quick Tips To Get More Organized Today

Isn’t it amazing that as moms we automatically seem to be the ones expected to keep the household running smoothly? We juggle everyone’s schedules, handle all of the doctor appointments, take care of the pets, pack the lunches, sign the permission slips, and all of the other little things that tend to add up over time. No wonder we need things like MamaZen to help keep us calm!

Of course, I’m not saying our partners don’t step in and handle some of this stuff, I’m just saying that it often feels like we’re the main organizers when it comes to our families. However, if we can put just a few small steps into practice and take the time necessary to get everyone in the house onboard, then ultimately, we’ll reap the benefits of an organized life, and become calmer in the process.

Here are three quick tips to get your life more organized, today:

  • Establish a Central Command Center -- Whether you have one kid or ten, establishing one common area for all of the day-to-day business of the house is a lifesaver! Pick a place that everyone has easy access to and create a designated spot for things like keys, ingoing and outgoing mail, homework assignments, and other important papers and items. If you have space, make a special spot for each person within your command center, whether it’s a basket, bin, or even just a hanging clip to keep papers sorted.

  • Divide and Conquer -- Even a toddler can handle simple chores, so make out a list of things that need to get done and assign tasks to everyone in the house. You can create a chore chart, reward board, or any other type of motivational tool that works for you and your family. Having a visual like this helps keep people on track and accountable. You’ll lessen the load on yourself while teaching your kids valuable lessons in responsibility at the same time.

  • Tidy Up To a Timer -- Sometimes, we don’t do something because we think it is going to take too long. We put off cleaning because we assume it will take all day, or we ignore the dishes in the sink because we envision it taking hours (especially when we’re already exhausted). Well, the odds are good that your kids and partner feel the same way, so why not change the perspective on tidying up? Instead of looking at all of the things you need to do, put a time limit on your tidying. Gather up the whole family, set a timer for 5 or 10 minutes, and then let everyone go through the house and clean up as much as they can before the alarm sounds. You can even make a game out of it, and before you know it, dirty clothes are in the hamper, the trash cans are emptied, and everyone’s belongings are back in their own rooms.

You don’t have to be Martha Stewart to have an organized home, you just need to be consistent. When you get the whole family on board it makes a big difference. Having an organized space saves time, money, and sanity, which in turn makes you feel less stressed and anxious.
